Inaugural Release of Hospice Compare Website

OASIS Answers - Thursday, August 17, 2017

On August 16, 2017, CMS unveiled the new Hospice Compare website. The site displays information in a ready to use format and provides a snapshot of the quality of care each hospice provides to its patients. CMS works diligently to make healthcare quality information more transparent and understandable for consumers and is committed to helping individuals make informed healthcare decisions for themselves and their families based on objective measures of quality.

The Hospice Compare site allows patients, family members, caregivers, and healthcare providers to compare hospice providers based on important quality metrics, such as the percentage of patients that were screened for pain or difficult or uncomfortable breathing, or whether patients’ preferences are being met. Currently, the data on Hospice Compare is based on information submitted by approximately 3,876 hospices.

The next refresh will take place in Winter 2018.

To view the new website, please visit https://www.medicare.gov/hospicecompare/

The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (CAHPS®) Hospice survey information will be displayed during a subsequent quarterly data update in winter 2018.

Prior to the inaugural release of data on Hospice Compare, hospices were given the opportunity to review their quality measure results during a 30-day preview period using a Hospice Provider Preview Report, which was issued by CMS.

The purpose of these reports is to give hospices the opportunity to review their quality measure results on each quality measure prior to public display on Hospice Compare. Reports can be accessed via Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reports (CASPER) application, which is accessible from a Hospice’s “Welcome to the CMS QIES Systems for Providers” page.

For Preview Report access instructions, please visit: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/Hospice-Quality-Reporting/Downloads/Hospice-Provider-Preview-Report-Access-Instructions.pdf

If you have difficulty accessing your report after review of these instructions, please contact the QTSO HelpDesk at help@qtso.com
